It’s not smiling, it’s just wind

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Or wait… maybe it really is smiling. From what we’ve read and heard, babies don’t start smiling and meaning it until they’re a few weeks old. Before that, they’re a bit like David Beckham. Point a camera at him and he smiles, but you’re not convinced that there’s anything behind it.

Today, though, there was definitely some smiling going on. Mainly, this happened after I grinned like a maniac at Cillian… until my jaw ached and my eyes were watering. Then, we were treated to the little guy’s magic, dimpled, lop-sided smile. But it may have been a desperate attempt on his part to stop this crazy big person pulling faces at him.

Even so, it was pretty exciting.

It’s not vomiting, it’s posseting

That’s what we’ve learnt, anyway. Which means that at 2am the other morning, I was sitting in a warm puddle of, er, posset? Nice.

It’s good to have the right vocabulary to describe these things. I had carefully arranged a muslin square on my shoulder, and was in the middle of winding Cillian when bleuuuurgh, there was a warm, wet explosion down my back. He has the uncanny knack of completely missing whatever you have arranged to catch his expulsions. Until I could manoueuvre him, and hand him to Ka, I just had to sit in a warm puddle. Lovely little fellah

Which means… we’ve got the real vomit to look forward to.

Ahoy!

Two hours sleep last night, and then out at 4am, to take papito and mamita to the railway station. *yawn* Still, I was able to enjoy Chopin’s Balade #1 on the radio, while I was stuck behind a milk float in Saffron Walden. One to download from the iTunes store, I think.

Cillian had just fed and was sleeping when I got back, so I was able to grab another couple of hours’ sleep, happily. (more…)
