Boys in the ‘Hood

Karyn est parti. Pour huit jours. À Mali. Donc, ça veut dire que Cillian doit faire face avec les moyens et méthodes de papa, à la place du système de l'Équipe Franglais habituel et généralement réussi. Aï aï aï. Le pauvre.

Karyn has gone away. For eight days. To Mali.

So that means that Cillian has to cope with only dad’s way of doing things, instead of the usual, generally successful Team Franglais parenting. Aï aï aï. The poor kid!

Back to normality

Yay! They’re back. I just went to Stansted to collect Ka and Cillian, and there were no problems or delays.

Everyone’s tired and ready for bed… Cillian is already in his new cot, and out like a light.

Tomorrow, we can get back to Happy Families normality! :)

Filling time

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Karyn and Cillian have been over in France for a few days now, so that the Boy Child can be shown off to the relatives, and generally coucou’d over.

So no big smiles or jigging about… from either of them! :( Still, I have had my big little brother here for company, which has been good. He is heading back to university tomorrow, so then I have to keep my mind off having an empty house until the end of next week.

No problem – lots of aikido is the answer! Next week is the anniversary of the aikido founder’s death (pretty sure it is his death), so some organisations hold a special misogi (purification) training session. I will go to one of these on Monday evening – we train intensively one technique, over and over, non-stop for a period of time. After a while, you stop analysing what you’re doing, and just style into a meditative state of repetition. It is very demanding, and though you’re sweating buckets and your lungs are burning, it is very rewarding.

So that’ll do for a bit. :)

Woaw... le petit mec commence à sourire! C'est trop cool... mais c'est aussi importante de reconnaître la difference entre "je souris parce je suis heureux" et "je souris parce que je viens de faire caca"...

Wow, this morning, I went in to talk to Ka just after she had finished feeding the youngster. As he looked at me, he gave me a big grin. Great! Later on today, he did the same thing with Ka. And we are quickly learning to tell the difference between a grin and a poo… a grin comes complete with dimples, and perhaps an expressive gurgle; a poo has a somewhat relieved and satisfied smile, but less humour and depth. Good to know.

Show me the boobies!

*yawn*It looks like it’s not easy, being a new mum. I am stating the bleeding obvious, I know, and if you’re an expectant parent, you’ll hear / read it everywhere you go.

But it’s true, that’s the thing. Whatever mental preparation you do; however much you read and imagine and plan… it’s going to be different to what you expected. This is Nature that we’re dealing with, so it does it’s own thing, and we’re along for the ride, to a large extent.

It kind of reminds me of something else… something that we usually experience earlier in life, before pregnancy and babies and worrying about colic. (more…)

Two hours sleep last night, and then out at 4am, to take papito and mamita to the railway station. *yawn* Still, I was able to enjoy Chopin’s Balade #1 on the radio, while I was stuck behind a milk float in Saffron Walden. One to download from the iTunes store, I think.

Cillian had just fed and was sleeping when I got back, so I was able to grab another couple of hours’ sleep, happily. (more…)
